ACT I: THE BREAKING POINT
JEN (31) is a painter trapped in a life without purpose. She works a dead end retail job where her manager berates her for poor sales, telling her she has no drive and no passion. Her art, her only source of joy, has been rejected by yet another gallery, with the owner dismissing her work as technically competent but lacking a voice, a story, pain.
When she comes home, she finds her boyfriend DANIEL has burned dinner and is more interested in TV than in her day. The apartment is small, cluttered with her canvases, reminders of the career that never happened.
That night, Jen meets her best friend LAUREN (33) at a dive bar. Lauren is everything Jen is not: confident, put together, fierce. She is also carrying her own grief. Her younger sister TARYN drowned two years ago, and Lauren was there, unable to save her. Jen breaks down over drinks, confessing that she feels invisible, worthless, and running out of time. Lauren, desperate to help, suggests a girls night out at a club called BIZARRA. Jen hesitates. She does not dance. But Lauren insists.
At Bizarra, Jen is overwhelmed by the sensory overload: the pulsing bass, the strobing lights, the dancers moving in eerie, synchronized trances. Lauren pulls her to the bar for shots. Two men, JASON and ERICK, approach. Lauren is flirtatious and sharp. Jen is shy and uncomfortable. When Jason pulls her onto the dance floor, Jen panics. She escapes to the bathroom and vomits.
That is where she meets VANESSA: beautiful, ageless, impossibly poised. Vanessa owns Bizarra. She is warm and maternal, dabbing Jen's face with concealer, listening to her problems with genuine seeming empathy. She offers Jen a special cocktail in the VIP lounge, an elixir she makes herself, promising it will help her let go. Jen drinks. The effect is immediate: euphoria, weightlessness, freedom.
Vanessa leads Jen to the VIP balcony, where they talk about suffering. Life is filled with suffering, Vanessa says, and I provide a space where people do not have to suffer anymore. She promises Jen that the feeling can last forever. Then she leads Jen to the dance floor. They dance together. Lauren finds them. Jen is laughing, dancing uncontrollably, her pupils dilated. Lauren gets concerned at Jen's behavior and drags her out of the club.
At home, Lauren tells Daniel someone slipped Jen something. Meanwhile, back at Bizarra, Vanessa watches another girl collapse on the dance floor and die. A bouncer drags the body away. Vanessa opens her minaudière. Inside, nestled among her makeup, is one of Jen's earrings. She stole it during the kiss.
ACT II: THE DESCENT
Jen wakes the next morning with a hangover and a missing earring. She does not remember much. Lauren calls, worried. Jen brushes it off. But something is wrong. She feels strange, disconnected. At work, she collapses in the backroom, her nose bleeding. The manager sends her home. That night, she begins painting in a trance: strange symbols, a knife, a bloody hand.
Vanessa, meanwhile, is aging. Without fresh blood, her youthful appearance is fading. She needs more victims, specifically victims who surrender willingly. The blood has to be open, she tells her bouncer. She looks at a poppet, a small cloth doll with Jen's name embroidered on it, Jen's earring sewn inside.
Jen's behavior grows more erratic. Daniel finds her painting the strange symbols, her eyes dilated, unresponsive. When he touches her shoulder, she snaps out of it, but she is different. She begs Daniel to go back to Bizarra with her. He refuses.
Lauren researches Bizarra. She finds old articles, missing person reports, a murder in 2010. Then she finds a newspaper photo from 1983: Vanessa, unchanged, standing outside the club. She scrolls through decades of photos. Vanessa has not aged a day.
Jen, in a trance, returns to Bizarra. Vanessa is waiting. She leads Jen upstairs, pours her another elixir, and listens as Jen vents about Daniel cheating. They dance again. They kiss.
Vanessa leads Jen and a handsome stranger named SEBASTIAN to a private room. She gives Sebastian a drink, then commands him to put out a cigarette on his own arm. He does, tears streaming down his face, unable to resist. Jen watches, horrified and fascinated. This is power, Vanessa says. Through my teachings, you will never be a victim again.
Lauren and Daniel arrive at Bizarra but are turned away by the bouncers. They sneak in through a service entrance, discovering a room filled with bones and an incinerator. They find the hidden door to the lower levels, but a bouncer blocks their path. Lauren pulls the fire alarm, creating chaos, and Daniel slips through.
In the lower levels, Vanessa leads Jen and Sebastian to her chamber. She hands Sebastian a blade. Slit your wrists, she commands. He does. Blood pours into a bowl. Vanessa mixes it with herbs and hands the potion to Jen. Are you ready to be reborn? Jen drinks. Daniel bursts in. Sebastian strangles him. Vanessa hands Jen a blade. Jen holds the blade to Daniel's neck. He pleads. Vanessa's force is too strong. Jen raises the blade and stabs Daniel.
Lauren starts yelling for Jen down the hall. Vanessa leaves to hunt Lauren. Jen realizes what just happened. Shattered and in a fit of rage, she shoves Sebastian into the fireplace. He catches fire. The room begins to burn.
In the hallway, Vanessa finds Lauren and strangles her. Jen attacks Vanessa from behind. They fight. Vanessa raises a blade. Lauren kicks the blade to Jen. Jen stabs Vanessa in the stomach. Vanessa ages rapidly, decades in seconds, and withers to dust. The fire consumes her body.
They escape as the club burns. Outside, Jen collapses, sobbing. They watch the club burn. A detective questions them then moves on.
ACT III: THE AFTERMATH
Months later, Jen sits in her new apartment. The news reports that Bizarra was destroyed in a fire, with multiple fatalities. Jen turns it off. She and Lauren sit in silence.
Jen returns to painting. She creates a portrait of a woman with dark hair, strong, but with bruises on her eyes and neck. She takes it to the gallery. The art curator loves it. Jen walks out into the sunlight. She takes a deep breath. For the first time in months, she smiles.
